The 94th United Nations Military Observer Course (UNMOC 3/09) started on 9 November with 34 students from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Bangladesh, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Finland. The future military observers were welcomed with snowy Finnish winter weather.
The aim of the course is to prepare officers for service as military observers in any Peace Support Operations mission and particularly for current UN-operations.
During the first week of the course the students gain the basic knowledge about Peace Support Operations (PSO) and theoretic information on observer duties. In the second week they focus on performing as observers, learn how to use an interpreter, negotiate and mediate, and finally, in the third week their skills are tested in the field exercise.
