United Nations Military Observer Course 2/2011

The United Nations Military Observer Course UNMOC 2/11 was conducted 8-26 August. The student officers were from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and China.

The aim of the UNMOC is to prepare officers for service as military observers in  any Peace Support Operations mission and particularly for the current UN  operations.

The length of the course was three weeks and it was run by staff and instructors from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Ireland. During the first week of the UNMOC the students gain basic knowledge of Peace Support Operations and theoretic information on observer duties. In the second week they focus  on performing as observers, learn how to work with an interpreter, negotiate  and mediate, and finally, in the third week their skills are tested in a field exercise.

The course was conducted by FINCENT within the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) framework.
